Fernando Vilariño

Principal Investigator at QML-CVC

About me

Quantum Machine Learning (QML). I am the associate director of the Computer Vision Center. I am a physicist, with a historical background in classical Machine Learning, leading the QML-CVC team from 2023. My current research insterest is to develop explorative paths for Quantum Computing in the context of the Machine Learning techniques used day by day at CVC. Quantum Technologies will allow us to define Computer Vision within a new domain of knowledge. The following driving questions will lead our research. Q1: How do we do Machine Learning in a quantum world? Q2: Which classical tasks could be solved in a practical way with quantum technology? Q3: Which are the unveiled social impacts of Quantum Technologies and Artificial Intelligence? Here, we want to understand what “seeing” means for a quantum system, and the topic of measurement in quantum mechanics is a world of its own. The question is, with the observations we make of a quantum system (whether it’s a quantum computing scheme or a quantum sensing setup), how can we use this information to perform vision tasks in the classical world?

Social Impact of AI and Living Labs: I am interested in the social impact of AI. I am Head of the Research Chair “Cátedra UAB-Cruïlla for Research in AI in the Field of Music and Arts” (catedrauabcruilla.cvc.uab.es), were I develop a model of living lab as regulatory learning tools in live cultural events.
